Climate-friendly electricity from a historically challenging site

Heidenheim Municipal Utilities is expanding its portfolio to include a JUWI project, which was carried out under special conditions following the discovery of unexploded ordnance.

The project

Stadtwerke Heidenheim AG further expanded its renewable energy portfolio in 2025, acquiring the Truppacherhof solar park – with a capacity of around 10.8 megawatts – from the JUWI Group in August. The plant was constructed by JUWI at the Truppacherhof site in Contwig, in the district of Südwestpfalz, and has been feeding environmentally friendly electricity into the grid since December 2025. Stadtwerke Heidenheim AG is the owner and operator, whilst JUWI is responsible for technical operations.

Energy for the region from 17,500 solar panels

With a total capacity of around 10.8 megawatts, the Truppacherhof solar park will generate approximately 12.3 million kilowatt-hours of environmentally friendly electricity per year – enough to supply around 4,200 households. The plant is situated on a site in Contwig in the district of Südwestpfalz. A total of around 17,500 modules will convert solar energy into green electricity there, avoiding around 13,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually compared to conventional power generation.

We are delighted with our successful partnership with the JUWI Group. With the acquisition of the Truppacherhof solar farm, we are continuing our commitment to the sustainable expansion of renewable energy and ensuring that our green self-generation portfolio is optimally complemented.

Specific circumstances during the course of the project

The project presents a number of unique challenges that have shaped its planning and implementation. As a pilot scheme in the field of priority access, the solar park sets new standards and required close coordination with the relevant authorities. The site is home to a listed bunker from the historic Westwall; other structures were located along the cable route and were carefully taken into account during construction. Despite prior surveys, unexploded ordnance repeatedly came to light during the construction work; this was professionally recovered before work could continue.
